Contemporary Vancouver Architecture

Check this week's Georgia Straight for a
feature by Charlie Smith on Vancouver's recent architecture. The impetus for the piece is the just published book by Chris MacDonald, A Guidebook to Contemporary Architecture in Vancouver.

The book covers a wide variety of projects, from the Chan Centre at UBC to the Waterfall Building and Emily Carr College of Art + Design and has essays by Adele Weder and Matthew Soules. It's not all inspired architecture-- though there are many highlights-- but it does provide an accurate cross section of the city's post-Expo built environment.

The interviews with MacDonald and Soules in the article give insight into how buildings were chosen and their thoughts on city architecture beyond these specific projects.
